Athletics
LHS can boast of an athletic history that spans more than a century. The first LHS team – girls basketball – first competed in October of 1907. Soon after the formation of that team, LHS added a boys baseball team, a tennis team, and a track team. Vertically-striped uniforms of the 1960s inspired the adoption of zebras as our mascot, and in 1967, by popular demand, our school adopted a new mascot design, created by an LHS student, along with the adjective “fighting.”
In recent years, the Fighting Zebras have made our school well known in the Sac-Joaquin Section of the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF). Fighting Zebras often earn conference championships, especially in recent years. In addition to a full selection of officially-sanctioned high school sports, LHS also offers trap/shooting teams, dance and cheer teams, and High School Rodeo.
