Attendance
ATTENDANCE INFORMATION
If your student will not be at school, please call the 24-hour attendance line at (916) 645-6580. You may also come into the office or send a note with your student when they return to school. Parents have 3 days to clear absences. If this is not met, absences become unexcused and detention will be assigned.
A student may be excused legally from school when the absence is due to:
- illness or injury;
- medical appointments;
- funeral services for immediate family;
- court appearances;
- quarantine by health officer, including not providing proof of immunization;
- observation of his/her religion;
- family emergencies.

SHORT TERM INDEPENDENT STUDY/TRAVEL STUDY
Short Term Independent Study (Travel Study) may be granted to students that meet the following criteria:
-
All Short Term Independent Study inquiries go through the attendance office and can be given for a minimum of 1 day and a maximum of 15 school days.
-
A student can have several short term independent studies in one year, but the total number of days of independent study is 15 days over the course of the school year.
-
Short Term Independent Study can be granted for short term illness, emergency, and vacation.
-
Students must have a 2.5 GPA or better in the previous grading period and meet attendance requirements.
-
The parents or guardians must complete an independent study contract at least five days in advance of their student leaving school; this gives the teachers appropriate time to gather assignments and turn them into the attendance office.
-
All work must be completed on time and returned to the office upon their return to school. Failure to complete the work will result in the absences becoming unexcused.
-
Short Term Independent Studies will not be granted during finals week, CAASPP testing and during the first week of the new semester. Please consult our calendars for these dates - click here.
